Resident Evil is a first person shooter franchise that spawns 24 games that started on the Playstation, as well as movies, comic books and novels, and merchandise. The games are focused on surviving and outwitting the undead, similar to The Walking Dead, and you must build an arsenal of guns to survive, or better yet- inch towards the goal of why the zombie apocalypse is happening.
Silent Hill is a survival-horror game franchise created by Konami (most famous for Dance Dance Revolution) that spans nine installments, two films and several spinoffs. The games revolve around the titular resort town, Silent Hill. The original game revolves around a man named Harry Mason as he searches for his lost daughter after crashing into the outskirts of the town in a car accident. Silent Hill is different from most survival horror games, as it utilizes psychological horror rather than jump scares. (one of the games goes so far as to have a psychological survey to alter the game)
A major fansite for the game (no official site exists), Silent Hill Heaven can be found here. (Has a 17+ age restriction in accordance to the ESRB, ARC and Konami guidelines.)
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a first-person survival horror game, where you play as man named Daniel in the year 1839, who has woken up with - you guessed it - nearly total amnesia in a castle full of monsters. Similar to SCP: Containment Breach, you have nothing to attack the monsters with, and your primary goal is to survive. However, unlike Containment Breach, there is a actual fully-fledged story to complete throughout the game. Can you reach one of the ends of said story?
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is the sequel to the original Luigi's Mansion (which was released as a launch title for the Gamecube), 12 years after the first game. It was well worth the wait though!
Much like the first the game, you control Luigi as you go through mansions, clearing them of ghosts in a Ghostbusters fashion- but this time, there are multiple mansions to go through, instead of just one big one. The primary goal has also shifted from the first game- this time, Luigi is looking for the pieces of the titular Dark Moon, a celestial body that floats over Evershade Valley, which has shattered and said shattering has caused the ghosts in the valley to go haywire. Only repairing the moon will return peace to the valley.
Official site for Luigi's Mansion and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon can be found here.
I'm not going into explaining what the meme the game Slender is based upon (that's another blog post entirely!) so I'll just explain the game.
Slender is a free indie first-person survival horror game, where you find yourself in a forest chased by a entity know as Slenderman. You must find eight pages documenting knowledge about the Slenderman in order to survive. You are armed only with a flashlight and the clothes on your back- can you do it? Game can be downloaded here.
Okay, so we covered the final Luigi's Mansion already, but that doesn't exempt the beta of it from having some really creepy (and WEIRD) beta elements.
Originally, the game was timed (similar to Majora's Mask with the three day cycle), and you only had to a certain time in the morning in-game to complete the game. Otherwise, the game would show you a (slightly disturbing) cutscene and give you a Game Over.
The game was going to be in 3D (the Gamecube can actually render stereoscopic 3D) (i.e red and blue 3D) but the idea was scrapped due to the crystal need to render it would have costed more then then the Gamecube itself.
When first being developed the game was just a tech demo for the Gamecube, (What's odd about this is that the game was originally planned for the N64.) but then it was decided to become a fully-fledged game.
Many of the ghosts went through changes, some drastic- such as many of the Portrait Ghosts being missing, removed or changed- some minor, -the design of the Boos changed from the beta version from the final.
Noodles is a Nintendogs creepypasta (A game as sugarcoated and sweet as Nintendogs outright deserves a creepypasta) that revolves around a girl that returns to Nintendogs after several years of moving on in life and leaving the game in a attic. Unfortunately for her, the dogs have changed too. And they want revenge.
SCP: Containment Breach is a free indie first-person survival horror game based off the tales of the SCP Foundation. You play as a Class-D personnel - a SCP disposable human guinea pig- about to undergo a experiment with SCP: 173, a supernaturally fast animate concrete statue that likes to snap human necks, but can't move in direct line of sight. Everything is going according to plan...
then all Hell breaks loose and you find yourself smack in the middle of a major containment breach.
Now your focus is to make out of the facility alive. There are many things to make it harder and harder to do so, such as security guards, gas that will force you to blink, locked doors, and of course - all the escaped SCPs.
Luigi's Mansion is a action-adventure video game, released as a launch title for the Nintendo GameCube in 2001. The game revolves around Luigi, this time in his second main role. (the first being Mario is Missing!but that one can stay in the past.)
The main gameplay mechanic has you capturing ghosts in a haunted mansion (leading to comparisons to Ghostbusters) Luigi has apparently won said mansion in a mail-in contest he never entered. The game is often seen as one of the games that defined the Gamecube, as well as a (possible) pardoy of the survival horrer genre.
Official site of the game (currently featuring it's sequel, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon / Luigi's Mansion 2) can be foundhere.
Can't have a Game Blog without a bit of the blue blur, right? Sonic.EXE is a Sonic creepypasta/fanfic that centers around a boy named Tom, who receives a CD-ROM Sonic game in the mail. Taking warnings for jokes, he activates the game, and the age-old phrase 'curiosity killed the cat' takes on a whole new meaning... ( Warning- the following links are not recommended for people under the age of 13. ) If you wish to read the creepypasta, click here. If you wish to play the game, click here for Windows and click here for Mac.
